Before April 1, 2018 your practice will need to update your system to be able to accept the MDI “Medicare Beneficiary Identifier” by April 1, 2018. If you have a vendor, utilize them to update their practice management system.
Transition period where you can use either the HICN or MBI to exchange data with Medicare begins no earlier than April 1, 2018 and runs through December 31, 2018. After the transition period ends, you will need to use the MBI on your claims.
