Maine voters approve Medicaid expansion

Maine voters approve Medicaid expansion. This vote will allow many more low-income residents to qualify for Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act, The Associated Press said.

The vote this month passed with a 59% in favor and 41% against. At least 80,000 additional Maine residents will become eligible for Medicaid as a result of the referendum. Now the battle on funding the program. Groups in Idaho and Utah are trying to put Medicaid expansion on the state ballot next year.

Maine is planning on joining the 31 states and the District of Colombia that have already expanded Medicaid to cover adults with incomes up to 138% of federal poverty level approx.  $16,642.00 for an individual or about $24,600.00 for a family of four.
